Ideas of Väinameri spreading to Olonets - August-September 2003

Farmers and small entrepreneurs from Latvia and Karelia came to get acquainted with the ideas and results of the Väinamere project. The Latvian Fund for Nature and WWF Sweden want to introduce the Väinamere model in some areas whose natural conditions are kind of similar to us. Several field trips were arranged to visit partners in Matsalu, Vormsi and Hiiumaa. The welcome was warm in all these places, people were happy to share their experience, ideas and plans with the guests.

Entrepreneurs engaged in nature tourism and artisans from Olonets and surroundings, the Republic of Karelia, received an especially big incentive to act.
The guests from Olonets were most deeply impressed by our local people, their hospitality, ability and will to communicate in Russian. They praised our nature, accommodation, well-kept surroundings, marked nature trails and public vacation spots.

People were united by these trips, a kind of network has come into being, they do not look for solutions alone any more, but they come together, discuss things, support each other and co-operate!
